The reProducer Audio Epic 5 clearly demonstrate the capabilities of a modern, rigorously engineered loudspeaker design. The monitors are intended for use in mixing and mastering in addition to a powerful main monitor or good headphones and are optimized for placement on a tabletop. The narrow cabinet design virtually eliminates resonance, allows the speaker to be optimally positioned, and the included set of spikes allows it to be reliably decoupled from the floor - and at the right distance: because there is a passive diaphragm on the underside, which expands what is actually a closed system to include a dynamic element, so that the bass range can be fully appreciated, but the advantages of a closed system are retained.
The Epic 5 delivers a concise stereo image, accurate transients, very clean highs and tight, clear bass. As you can see from the free-field frequency curve, the Epic 5 also manages what many others unfortunately only promise: The frequency response is not only straight in a direct measurement, but also still at the right listening distance. Due to the very precisely designed sound path, the user also gets a comfortable listening angle without the loudspeaker exciting the room to disturbing resonances. This clearly qualifies the Epic 5 as a professional audio tool for the precise assessment of basic tuning as well as details in all production steps from arrangement to master.
