The Q4n's built-in microphones can be reconfigured very easily between an A / B and an X / Y stereo recording.
But, what is actually the difference?
A / B recording
A / B provides a vivid stereo image and a realistic sense of space and atmosphere. Ideal if you want to record the reverberation of a concert hall, for example. It is also good for situations where you want to record the sound of people speaking in different parts of the room.
X / Y recording
X / Y stereo recording captures audio with a natural depth and width but still provides a robust stereo centre. So ideal for live music recording and video blogging.
