The Z.Vex Double Rock! Vexter Guitar Effects Pedal was originally designed for J.Mascis who requested two Box of Rock pedals in a single unit with two stomp switches. The sub frequencies can be adjusted and either channel can be converted to a ‘Super Hard-On’.
The Z.Vex Double Rock! Vexter Guitar Effects Pedal also contains an extremely high-headroom, unity-to-50X gain booster with nominal input impedance and low hiss. The boost channel follows the distortion channel so that the distortion is able to hit your amp harder (at a higher volume) when both switches are engaged for boosting solos.
The Z.Vex Double Rock! Vexter Guitar Effects Pedal uses a 9V battery (preferably alkaline, but the unit is shipped with a carbon-zinc battery).
The main features of the Z.Vex Double Rock! Vexter Guitar Effects Pedal include:
Drive: Sets the amount of distortion
Tone: Adjust for treble content
Vol: Adjust for ‘distortron’ engine volume level
Boost: Sets the boost level, which is engaged with the left stomp switch
Was a bit muddy at first but this was remedied with a new 9v battery. Much smaller unit than expected and fits nicely on my board. Sound wise, it does low gain really well. If you’re looking for mad Mascis fuzz, looks towards the Garbage Face or an EHX Rams Head.
I’m using this as a basis of a plexi tone via a clean Fender amp. It does the job of recreating Dinosaur Jnrs tone perfectly.
Would recommend, even despite the high price point.
