The TRSHMSTR from WMD combines a resonant bandpass filter with an extremely rough-edged overdrive circuit. Everything that is sent through this module sounds harder and sleeker than before and, of course, even very heavy settings are no problem.
The filter section is a bandpass filter that covers a wide frequency range. A special feature here is the switchable character of the resonance. Zener diode, diode clipping with maximum input level and asymmetrical distortion are available, none of these flavors sound tame, each is brute in a different way.
The overdrive section is managed with two controls and switches, but it has a lot to offer. The HPF switch determines the frequency range of the distortion, the results vary between bassy-harmonic, tube screamer and more strongly emphasized overtones. With Flavour, the overdrive behavior can be selected between asymmetrical, overtone-rich diode clipping and fuzzy. Here, too, the module cannot and does not want to be soft.
The lower part of the module is dedicated to the CV inputs and signal routing. The Gain and Freq parameters are equipped with attenuators to give you more control over the sound. The two units FILTER and DRIVE can be used separately and are also cross-normalized. This means that the signal can first pass through the distortion unit and then through the filter or vice versa. This aspect in itself offers many sound variations. Anyone looking for a multi-faceted tool for hard sounds is well advised to use the TRSHMSTR.
