The Vic Firth CMN Metal Sticks Nylon Tip Natural is a pair of traditional drumsticks. These sticks are made from selected hickory. Hickory is a dense wood that has some flex and has a clear-cut sound. It's also capable of taking a huge amount of shock, making it great for drums. These American Classic sticks feature a nylon tip that makes rich and crisp cymbal sounds. These tips have been deeply cut back to intensify the response from cymbals. The classic white finish makes this stick very distinctive and definitely tears it apart from the rest. Each pair of American Classic drumsticks have been weight and tone matched to give you the most even sticks possible.
The main features of the Vic Firth CMN Metal Sticks Nylon Tip Natural include:
The features I like:
- The weight and length are perfect for fast stuff: If you look at drummers in the more "technical" bands (Gojira, Archspire, The faceless, ...) you will see a tendency to go to this kind of heavy sticks because of the bounciness. As a result, the up motion of the sticks is effortless and the motion is smoother. I prefer the lenght of the "metal" more than the "rock" version even though I'm not a tall/heavy guy.
- Nylon tip: It's a must for durability
- Sound: Thanks to the weight, you don't have to play hard. You can be more relaxed and it sounds at full volume easily. I feel like it also expand your dynamic range of volume by increasing the loudest note you can do.
The feature I don't like:
- The price is fairly expensive and even though it's the most durable wooden sticks I've used, I still manage to break them after something like 10-20h of playing. But if the stick is breaking it also means that it's absorbing vibration that your wrist would endure. This is why I would never go to stiffer sticks anyways.
