Thorens - TD 1600 with TP160, walnut high gloss at a glance
The Thorens TD 1600 turntable with the new TP 160 tonearm represents an innovative continuation of the TD1600 model, combined with a traditional wooden plinth and a two-part, precisely machined aluminum platter, driven by a polished, internally running belt. The accompanying TPN 1600 external linear power supply, with an efficient toroidal transformer, provides a robust power supply to the synchronous motor with 2x 16V for optimum rotation consistency. The TP 160 tonearm is characterized by a high-precision cutting bearing. This 9 inch (approx. 23 cm) J-shaped tonearm with SME headshell connectiontakes up the design of classic studio tonearms and additionally stabilizes the horizontal bearing with magnets for exact tracking of the vinyl record. The sub-chassis, supported by three springs, is not based on the top board but on the floor. A tightly tensioned steel thread along the motor roller platter axis minimizes lateral swaying, which promotes a piston-like oscillation of the sub-chassis. For a professional connection, balanced XLR outputs provide a low-interference connection to the phono preamplifier, which is important for amplifying the sensitive phono signal. A true balanced connection, which ensures optimum sound quality, requires the use of a moving coil (MC) cartridge.
