For 95% of what you will use this for, this unit is perfect: once you'e set up your formats & media, recording is a breeze and the capture equality is at least as good as my previous recorder which was a repurposed MacMini. Despite my comments below, this is still a great piece of kit.
A couple of quibbles:
- FTP is intermittent. Sometimes it works, sometimes it decides not to.
- FTP is slow: 30 minutes to transfer 2gb on an internal network when I can shift more than that in a minute or so from other equipment in the house, including kit on the same network hub.
- The date stays 'set' but the clock doesn't. A first world problem but confusing when you have edited files that seem to be created before the original files.
As a result of the FTP issues I am having to resort to transferring manually which means taking out the memory card, walking it to the mac, plugging in a card reader, etc, etc which is a pain. You also can't do it while the unit is recording to that memory stick so it slows my whole workflow down. It may be that I've screwed up a ftp setting somewhere but, if so, I can't find it.
