The SE-1x from Studio Electronics has been around since the 90s and has been constantly improved in details and functionally upgraded. This SE-3x surpasses its predecessors and adds paraphony and even more filters. Once a Moog clone, the "SE" has established itself in countless studios and productions and belongs to the classics of its guild.
Analog power in detail
The SE-3x can be played monophonic or 3-voice paraphonic and scores with a fully analog signal path. Each of the three oscillators has three waveforms, which can be activated simultaneously if required. The pulse width can be manually adjusted in the range of 10-90% and can be modulated. The sound generation is completed by a ring modulator, noise generator, Hardsync and cross modulation. The following mixer can be accessed via the pulse width controls using the shift function. Four filters have found a place in the SE-3x, all of which are real classics. One filter can be active: 24dB lowpass Moog Minimoog, 24dB lowpass ARP 2600, 12/24dB lowpass Roland Juno/Jupiter, 12dB lowpass/bandpass Oberheim SEM. Studio Electronics is known for its accurate filter replicas, together with the mighty oscillators, which have pure punch and power, you can look forward to a wide range of classic analog sounds, which come through well in the mix. The VCA has a fuzz circuit that overdrives the VCA a bit softer in the 70s style or approaches the signal harder in the style of the 90s.
Complex sounds through modulation
Like its predecessors, the SE-3x has four crisp envelopes. Two of them are permanently connected to the filter and VCA, the other two can be freely assigned. In addition, there are three LFOs, which can also be applied to any target. Velocity, aftertouch, modulation wheel, pitch bender and an extensive MIDI implementation complete the possibilities to breathe life into the lush basic sound. Thanks to the audio input, the SE-3x also cuts a fine figure as a filter box for external sounds.
