The Squier Vintage Modified Baritone Jazzmaster Black is a completely unique guitar in the Squier/Fender cannon. Tuned a perfect 5th below standard tuning (A, D, G, C, E, A) the Baritone Jazzmaster produces a naturally low and rumbling tone, often associated with 1960s Surf, Country and Rock’n’Roll, although more recently the Baritone guitar has been adopted by Metal and Experimental styles. The nature of the instrument demands a longer body and scale length (30” / 762mm) as well as a more robust internal bracing in order to sustain the increased tension. Baritone guitars also require thicker string sets in general (at least 12 gauge is recommended).
The tone of the Vintage Modified Baritone Jazzmaster is bolstered by the inclusion of double Duncan Designed JM-101 single-coil pickups, perfectly capturing the range of the guitar. The guitars body is basswood whilst the rosewood neck is maple, and features pearloid block inlays. The Volume and Tone control pots are complimented by the 3-way tone selector switch.
