The Soyuz 013 FET is a small diaphragm condenser microphone with cardioid polar pattern. The microphone has the ability to capture details accurately, making it suitable for recording pianos, guitars, choral ensembles, strings, orchestras and drum overheads. At the same time, this gives the microphone a warm sound characteristic. A recording of complex, transient instruments and sounds that fill the frequency spectrum and dynamic range pleasantly and warmly is given by the characteristic of soft highs and an accuracy in the midrange. With a limiting sound pressure level of 143 dB, the Soyuz 013 FET has a noise floor of 16 dB(A). A phantom power of 48V, which is transmitted through the XLR cable, is required for the power supply.
I was torn between this and the Neumann Km184 for use on my acoustic guitar and violin recordings. I went with the Soyuz and I'm so glad I did! It has this certain weight and clarity to it in the sound that I've been missing in my previous recordings, and honestly requires very little EQ to get it right in the mix with my vocals. Plus the wooden box it comes in is pretty, and looks good on my shelf!
