The Slate Digital ML-1 Matte Black Microphone is the heart of the virtual microphone system. This large-diaphragm microphone features a shock-mounted, gold-plated 6-micron capsule and a state-of-the-art FET circuit path that provides a linear, flat and clean output for emulation. When combined with the Slate Digital Tube Microphone modelling software, it can sound like some of the rarest and famous microphones in recording history. The software package includes emulations of the classics Neumann/Telefunken U47, Neumann U67, Neumann M7, Sony 800, Telefunken/AKG C12, Telefunken Elam 251, each of which has made recording history on its own and has been used on countless recordings for vocals, guitars, acoustic instruments, drum overheads, etc. While a well-preserved Neumann U47 alone quickly eats up all your savings, and the Telefunken re-release hovers at similar heights, the Slate Digital ML-1 Matte Black Microphone gives you these top-of-the-line models at a fraction of the price - available at the touch of a button and in the guise of an absolutely professional hardware microphone in its own right. In addition, the emulations of the Neve 1073 and the similarly popular Siemens V76 allow you to further refine your sound and prepare it perfectly for mixdown.

I recently bought the ML-1 along with two ML-2's. Very shortly after, I decided to sell most of my other mics. I have almost every recording situation covered with just this! Although the ML-1 sounds great by itself, the emulations are real attraction here. It gives you so many possibilities during and after recording. Being able to mic-swap in real time is phenomenal!
I was a little intimidated by the full price tag (€899), but Slate regularly puts the ML-1 on sale for €499...and if you can get it at that price, there's NO reason not to own this mic. I love it!!
This Microphone system can deliver amazing results and is definitely worth the outlay. It gives you, the producer, engineer or artist all the options to record and then refine your Audio later on.
I've used mid-budget mics such as AKG C414, Shure SM7B & Neumann TLM 103 before and this is gives me much better results.
In my opinion, there is no better product out there in this price bracket! Excellent build quality, software, with possibilities to change the tone and timber of your recording in production stage, and also motivate the recorded artist/vocalist to deliver their best performance whilst hearing the output as a classic mic tone and sound.
I was sceptical about this mic but read that it’s flat response was good on its own an as I needed a new studio vocal mic I bought this on sale.
The mic is well built, looks great and more importantly it sounds great, with or without the software running.
I certainly recommend it to anybody who hasn’t got tens of thousands to spend buying all of the modelled mics.
This microphone is brilliant the tone to it is completely neutral and perfect in it's self to record what ever you wish. But then when you add the emulation this microphone is Incredible the sound quality is truly amazing. The build quality on this is gorgeous the metal case it arrived in is a nice touch as well.
All round brilliant microphone for any application highly recommend five stars from me. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
