Since the 60s, when rock music began to get loud and wild, the "machine gun effect" has been a popular stylistic device among electric guitarists. By quickly moving the toggle switch up and down, the sound is effectively shredded, creating a very special kind of electronic machine gun fire. All well and good, but such radical actions put a destructive strain on the material, so that countless toggle switches have fallen by the wayside in the process.
For this annoying problem Shadow found a revolutionary solution: the SH 124 Kill Pot. This is a potentiometer with an integrated switch that is pressed instead of the toggle switch. This protects the toggle switch and is also much more comfortable to use.
Pressing the potentiometer button causes the sound to be suppressed immediately; if you release it, the sound is immediately present again. It's that simple!
The installation of the SH 124 Kill Pot can be done without major difficulties in any common electric guitar, where the Kill Pot replaces either a volume or tone potentiometer. The SH 124 Kill Pot can withstand this martial pressing and releasing up to 2 million times, so that a multitude of rattling machine gun salvos is guaranteed. In this sense, the SH 124 Kill Pot is indeed a true "killer"!
Features:
This is a great killswitch. Very easy to use for a stutter effect.
My only complaint is that there are no connecting wires supplied. Depending on the configuration (Volume or Tone control) one or two of the lugs need to be connected to the points on the bottom of the pot so you will have to use a jump wire or 2.
Also, the shaft is significantluy narrower than the pot that was removed and when comparing this to an Epiphone and Washburn pot, there is a significant differance. This can be overcome with washers, but just be aware of this.
