The Rupert Neve Portico II Master Bus Processor contains all the tools needed for superior dynamic mastering. It provides everything the engineer's heart desires from standard sum compression to parallel compression to sophisticated M/S compression.
The two compressors allow almost unlimited possibilities for dynamics processing, optionally in dual-mono or stereo. Flexible settings for ratio, threshold, attack, release, blend, side-chain HPF and catch-up gain provide versatile access to the audio material. The compressor can be operated both feed-forward and feed-back, providing a modern, transparent result (FF) or a more musical, classic sound (FB). Two switchable neve transformers are included for the selective generation of harmonics, which are controlled by the texture control. Finally, a brickwall limiter with an attack of 0.03ms is built in, which masters the last compression step better and more sound-friendly than any plug-in.
The stereo processor of the Rupert Neve Portico II is designed to work in M/S mode. It has separate volume controls for mid and side material (Depth/Width) and can additionally filter each channel with an equalizer. This works with 4 selectable fixed bands, which highlight either bass, treble or mid frequencies. If the matrixing is to be done before compression, the sequence of the sections can be reversed by a switch.
