Royer SF-24 Stereo Active Ribbon Microphone - Precision and sensitivity for demanding stereo recordings
The Royer SF-24 is the active, phantom-powered version of the popular SF-12stereo ribbon microphone. It combines the outstandingstereo imaging and fidelity of the SF-12 with an innovativeactiveelectronics system. Thanks to this technology, the SF-24 achieves a sensitivity that is 14 dBhigher than conventional passive ribbon microphones and offers a signal performance that is comparable to high-quality condenser microphones.
First-class stereo reproduction with Blumlein arrangement
The SF-24 consists of two precisely tuned ribbon capsules arranged one above the other in a Blumlein configuration. This enables precise stereo imaging with naturalspatiality and excellentdepth. The 1.8-micron ribbon elements guarantee outstanding transient response, while the innovative magnet/pole-core design ensures a linearfrequency response without annoying peaks or dips.
Active electronics for maximum sensitivity and low noise
Thanks to the patented Active Ribbon™ technology, the SF-24 has a sensitivity of -38 dB, making it easy to use with any microphone preamplifier. Unlike passiveribbon microphones, which require highpreamplification, the SF-24 can also be used with preamplifiers with averagegainperformance.
The active circuits are based on speciallywoundtoroidaltransformers and ultra-low noise FETs. This design not only ensures excellentsignal quality, but also ensures that the microphone delivers sufficient output leveleven with quietsignal sourceswithout generating additional self-noise.
Perfect impedance matching for optimum signal quality
The SF-24 has been designed to always provide a perfect load for the ribbon elements, regardless of the input characteristics of the microphone preamplifierused. This preventssound loss and ensures that the microphone always operates with full sonic integrity - even with long cable runs, the signal remains stable and loss-free.
In addition, the SF-24 is fully protectedfrom phantom power, electricalinterference or incorrectlywiredconnections, so there is no risk of damage due to incorrect voltages.
Versatile applications for studio and orchestral recordings
Like the SF-12, the SF-24 delivers an exceptionally realistic stereo recording that not only captures the instrument but also- depending on the positioning - the room acoustics authentically.
The microphone is perfect for:
Orchestral and ensemble recordings with natural spatiality
Drum overheads for a wide and detailed representation of the kit
Acoustic instruments such as guitar, piano and percussion
Choirs and vocal ensembles with excellent vocal separation
Room miking for capturing ambience and natural acoustics
Optimum mono compatibility without phase problems
The two channels of the SF-24 are perfectly matched to each other, ensuring excellent phase fidelity. This not only enables problem-free summing of the two channels for monorecordings, but also preventsunwantedphase artifacts.
Alternatively, a single capsule of the SF-24 can be used as a mono ribbon microphone - ideal for singers or instrumentalists who move around during recording.
The Royer SF-24 Stereo Active Ribbon Microphone sets new standards for active ribbon microphones and offers the highest sound quality with an outstanding combination of stereoprecision, naturalthree-dimensionality and improvedsensitivity. Thanks to its modernelectronics and impedance matching, it is versatile and a first-class choice for professional studio and orchestral recordings.
