The Roland V-STAGE 88 at a glance
With the V-STAGE 76, Roland presents its vision of a fully comprehensive all-in-one stage pianodesigned for everyday studio and stage use. Thanks to its high-quality workmanship, clearly structured control panel and sparing use of double assignments, the V-STAGE 76 is a guarantee for live playing and guides the user unerringly to the desired sound. The outstandingly playable 76-key keyboard with semi-weighted keys and waterfall feel is equipped with Roland's pioneering sensor technology for improved response. This dynamically adapts to the sound engine selection and ensures that the key response is always perfect. When it comes to sound generation, the V-STAGE 76 draws on the full range; the four independent sound engines Organ, Acoustic Piano, Electric Piano and Synthesizer use the latest Roland ZEN-Core and SuperNatural sound generators, among others. There are also plenty of effects that can be stored in complex effect chains ready for quick reuse. The fact that the V-STAGE 76 is a real workhorse for stage and studio is evident from its performance-oriented design, assignable buttons for direct access to programs, definable split points and a large scene memory, which enables quick soundset changes.
Organ!
The organ section features Roland's excellent simulations of B3 Tonewheel, two transistor combo models from the 1960s and a pipe organ model. The central controls in this section are the nine drawbars with LED bars. The drawbars can be switched for other aspects of the organ sound via the harmonic bar parts. Elementary sound nuances such as vibrato/chorus and percussion have their own control elements and are largely accessible without a shift function. The popular rotary effect is sufficiently adjustable with slow/fast/stop and overdrive and gives jazz organs in particular the necessary funkiness.
Acoustic piano!
The piano section of the V-STAGE 88 scores with a successful selection of piano sounds based on Roland's V-Piano sound generation. With two grand piano sounds, an upright piano and a felt piano, there are four particularly expressive acoustic pianos in the repertoire. The virtual modeling system takes into account sound-relevant details such as string behavior, soundboard materials and hammer construction. The Piano Designer gives you access to detailed parameters at the touch of a button. Controls for brightness and sound width ensure quick and effective tuning of the piano sound.
Electric piano!
The third sound engine focuses entirely on electric pianos and offers high-quality electric piano models from the Tine, Reed, Digital and Clavinet categories. The newly developed engine offers a huge sound bandwidth including flexible sound shaping and articulation control. The Sound Lift control enables softer articulations without compression and ensures that subtle details and sound transparency are retained even in dense band mixes. In combination with the effects tremolo, amp simulation and various multi-effects, you can create great electric piano sounds for any musical genre in no time at all.
Synthesizer!
The synthesizer section of the V-STAGE is perfect for solo use or in combination with the other engines. Based on Roland's latest ZEN-Core sound generation, the instrument offers over 400 sounds out of the box. Model expansions of Jupiter-8, Juno-106, SH-101 and JX-8P are available for free download. Additional ZEN-Core patches can be loaded into the V-STAGE from the Roland Cloud (for a fee). The synth sounds can be adapted to current requirements using the cutoff parameters, the two envelope phases Attack and Release and two multi-effects parameters.
Effects!
The effects section, aka Total Effects, is divided into three independent effect blocks. A total of 93 multi-effects are just waiting to change and refine the sounds created. The selection of phaser, chorus, flanger, lo-fi, distortion and truly unique effects with wow character should leave nothing to be desired. The V-STAGE also has enough power to calculate complex effect chains without running out of breath. With delay and reverb, the tried and tested bread and butter effects are represented in professional quality. DELAY generates various delay variants that can be integrated in sync with the clock if required. REVERB offers a good selection of reverb variants from the reverb 1 & 2, room, Plate and shimmer ranges. The master equalizer and a compressor are located at the main output.
Professional connections
The rear of the V-STAGE is pleasingly versatile. In addition to the keyboard, there are three freely assignable foot pedal connections and a fourth for sustain. This increases the expressive possibilities on the keyboard with the usual pedals. MIDI is communicated via the In/Out/Thru and USB connection trio. This is perfect for anyone who wants to operate additional equipment such as a rack expander or a DAW with the V-STAGE. In its capacity as a complete all-in-one Live stage piano, audio inputs are of course a must! On the input side, the keyboard shines with line inputs with a 6.3 mm jack and an XLR microphone input. For signal output, there is a main out with balanced signal routing with XLR and 6.3 mm jack sockets as well as a secondary stereo output. MIDI and a stereo signal are sent and received via the USB-C port. Thanks to several USB ports, it is of course possible to connect other devices in addition to a computer and an external storage medium such as a USB stick. For example, it is possible to connect a second keyboard for double manual playing, a breath controller or a fader box.
