The only detrimental qualities that I can find is the lack of switchable polar patterns, but, as it is advertised as one pattern you should know what youre getting yourself into with this microphone anyway. The other viewable as negative feature is the lack of a pad button that can reduce signals that are coming in too hot into the microphone. This would be useful for recording louder instruments and would help the mic in terms of safety just in case youre going too loud without realising it. If youre using it in a home studio setting be sure to use a reflection screen or some form of acoustic treatment as it can really show off the negative side of your room quite easily if not properly used.
This mic is simply outstanding, it sounds as a pro mic should, I used it on vocals, acoustic guitars and percussions. Just one polar pattern, but who could ask for more for this price? I am looking forward to buying another one as Id like to try them as overhead pair on drums since they are so brilliant on highs. All Rode products are Made in Australia, not China even though the price would suggest so. Great mic!

I may say that this is the best mid-range mic Ive ever used. Silent, clear, sensitive, and at the same time it can hold a big pressure of a loud guitar combo. Self noise is absent! Only one cardioid diagram but tell me honestly how frequently you need anything else? Very, very recommended. Rodes are great mics.
