Miasma from Ritual Electronics is a voltage-controlled, diode-based distortion with feedback loop. The analogue circuitry truly brings out the maximum: extreme distortion, screech, feedbacks well into self-oscillation, a sound character that colours very strongly and when needed not too much of the original signal remains. The feedback loop feeds the distorted signal back into the input without phase reversal, causing the module to self-oscillate even without an input signal. The feedback path can be opened and sent through various effects, making Miasma perfect for complex feedback patches. Blend control allows smooth crossfading between the original signal and distortion hell. Miasma comes with six diodes mounted on headers, which can be changed at will by the user. The choice here ranges from germanium to LED, the sonic results turn out very different and are variably violent in sound character. Depending on the selected diode, the distortion behaviour changes between balanced or unbalanced. With the ExpanderCrime II the circuit is extended with further diode models as well as Lowpass and high pass filters and an additional audio output.
