Four-string electric bass with neck through construction and single coil pickups, including case
With the Rickenbacker 4003S Matte Black, the American company with a long tradition presents the standard version of the legendary Model 4003 E-Bass, which focuses on the typical Rickenbacker sound by dispensing with opulent optical details. Accordingly, the four-string bass has two passive single coil pickups, a maple body and a neck through neck made of the same material.
RICKENBACKER 4003S Matte Black provides the typical Rickenbacker sound.
Classic Rickenbacker construction
The heart of the Rickenbacker 4003S is the maple neck. In combination with the glued body wings, which are also made of maple, the bass delivers a brilliant basic sound with a long sustain, which is the basis for the typical Rickenbacker character. The comfortably contoured neck in combination with the 33.25" scale (845 mm) and the 10" (254 mm) radius of the Caribbean Rosewood fingerboard offer a butter-soft playability.
Two Single Coil pickups
The two Rickenbacker Single-Coil-Pickups in the neck and bridge position of the Rickenbacker 4003S Matte Black convince with their classic sound on the amplifier, whose long sustain and powerful top end shaped the sound of different music styles from pop and rock to heavy metal. The passive circuit with a 3-way toggle switch as well as individual volume and tone controls for each pickup allow different sound nuances to be selected. In addition, the "Vintage Tone" mode delivers classic sounds with natural warmth and soft articulation.
After 30 years of playing a variety of Fender basses I decided to take the plunge and buy a Rickenbacker. It's very much a 'premium instrument' and I was a little wary of buying one without being able to try it beforehand. However, over the years I've adapted to various neck dimensions and body shapes so, after consulting my Ric-playing friends, I bought the unbound 4003S. The bass arrived after a thorough in-shop set-up and was ready to play straight away. Comfortable body shape, fast neck, well finished frets and an overall air of quality.I recorded a track for a remote collaboration within hours of receiving the double-boxed package. I was most impressed by the tone and tonal variety and after exporting the bass files it wasn't long before the positive feedback rolled in. So it's not just me ! A very high quality bass that will be my No.1 for a long time.
