The Radial OX8-j signal splitter is a passive solution for the distribution of microphone signals in professional studio, sound reinforcement and concert applications. It is used whenever signal sources are to be sent to multiple devices for further processing. On its rear panel, it provides one direct output per channel, one transformer-isolated output with interrupted ground connection and one direct output with interrupted ground connection. Thus, each signal can be distributed to up to 3 destinations.
At a concert, the stage signal is sent to the FOH, a separate console for the monitor mix, and possibly a multitrack recording device; in the rehearsal room, the monitor boxes and the audio interface are to be supplied with the same signals at the same time; several microphone signals are transmitted from an auditorium to one or more adjacent rooms...
The Radial OX8-j signal splitter separates the signal ground at the split point from the ground of the devices at the Isolated Out and at the Direct Lift Out, so that a microphone, for example, is only connected to the protective earth conductor via one target device at a time. In this way, ground loops are reliably separated without any significant loss of sound quality. In the case of devices that are themselves connected to the ground conductor, such as keyboard amplifiers, professional rack effects, tape machines or desktop computers, a ground loop can still occur. To break this, the ground lift switch on the front panel of the OX8-j is operated.
