A ring modulator with a wide range of applications
XOR from Rides In The Storm is an analog ring modulator with parallel XOR and diode ring modulation. The module offers two different forms of ring modulation and makes these available at individual outputs and as a mix. The latter can be mixed as desired via knob and control voltage. Ideally, sine and/or triangle waveforms should be fed into the X and Y inputs to create typical sounds with a metallic character. Using square waveforms at the inputs produces much more aggressive sounds. A resonance-free 6dB Highpass filter is connected downstream of the XOR output. It is controlled by a control voltage and can also be used independently for other tasks in the Patch. If required, a noise generator can be switched in as the last element in the signal path; this is mixed with XOR and MIX at a fixed level and is also available as an audio output. Fortunately, the module is able to ring-modulate control voltages, and the mix output can be switched in the voltage range 0-5V or +/- 5V to exploit the full spectrum.
