Pioneer DJ S-DJ60X 6" Studio / DJ Monitor Black

The Pioneer S-DJ60X Active DJ Monitor Speaker is made for the more serious DJ who wants to achieve the quality of professional sound-system for their studio or home DJ set-up. The S-DJ60X DJ Speaker sits in the middle of the new Pioneer range, delivering a lot more power than the S-DJ50X and a lot more bass for a fuller, richer sound. With a bigger cabinet and a larger 6” woofer, the S-DJ60X can reach down to 45Hz which is a healthy dose of bass without the worry of disturbing the whole neighbourhood with flappy low end. The tweeter is the same 1” dome used in the S-DJ50X, but with more power sent to it from its bi-amplifier to match the increased bass response, but the frequency response remains the same at 20kHz – which is the maximum on most digital recording formats.

Because the Pioneer DJX range of active speakers are built for DJ’s, the designers have been able to concentrate on better sounding speakers rather focussing entirely on accurate flat levels – which is what most active monitor speakers designed specifically for. Thanks to their close relationship one of the world’s leading experts in speaker design, TAD Labs, the DJX speakers are simply brimming with technology. The 1” soft dome tweeter makes use of TAD’s proprietary DECO (Diffusion Effectual Convexity by Olson) technology, which use convex diffusers to improve the spatial separation of high frequencies and create a panoramic, wide 3D effect. The 6” woofer is made from space-age aramid fibers, which are literally bullet-proof, and produce an extremely tight, robust, punchy sound – the maxim of modern dance music. The front-ported bass reflex system is then added to punchiness to throw out a generous amount of additional bass frequencies, creating warm and subtle low end.

The Class AB bi-amplifier, designed specifically for the S-DJ60X, splits the signal and amplifies it independently before sending it on to the tweeter and woofer to give the perfect balance of power and accuracy. On the S-DJ60X this split is 90w to the woofer and 35w to the tweeter. The combined result gives a very satisfying sound pressure level (SPL) of 113dB. Additional bits of DJ-centric design includes and Auto Stand-By mode (ideal for the more forgetful of us), a treble switch to achieve the perfect balance for you and your space, and the complete range of inputs including RCA, balanced jack and XLR, to make sure you are never caught out with the wrong cable!

The DJX series speakers from Pioneer fill the void in a market where active speakers are typically designed to give a flat, dry response for accurate music production monitoring. DJ’s on the other hand, want a high powered, crisp clean sound with a healthy dose a bass, which generally means tossing up between PA speakers or hi-fi set-ups – neither of which really fit the bill acoustically and can require quite a lot of additional space and messing around with amps and the like. In the modern era of hi-fidelity audio, such a CD and hi-resolution MP3 files, DJ’s want to be able to hear the quality of their tunes and if you were going down the hi-fi or PA route this would mean spending considerable money! The DJ60X is therefore the perfect answer for the modern DJ.
