To activate the hardware unlock, the controller must be connected to the computer via USB and switched on while the software is running. The software uses a handshake protocol to check whether the controller is unlocked and automatically activates the Pro features without the need to enter a serial number.
With the DJM-S5, Pioneer DJ expands its DVS battle mixer series with a model featuring innovative capabilities. The design is inspired by the flagship DJM-S11 and enables seamless use of up to 57 effects in Serato DJ Pro, including optional paid FX Expansion Packs. Each deck is equipped with four performance pads, offering versatile control over features such as cue points, roll, auto-loop, sampler, gate cue, cue loop, saved loop, and scratch bank – even across two instances. Additionally, the DJM-S5 provides a 3-band equalizer per channel as well as separate low- and high-pass filters for precise sound control. The integrated Magvel Fader Pro crossfader is fully customisable: users can adjust its resistance to suit their preferences via a front-panel knob. A notable innovation is the USB-C slot, which powers the mixer when connected to a computer. Alternatively, the DJM-S5 can function as an analogue standalone mixer for CD players or turntables with the help of an optional USB power adapter. This model combines flexibility, premium build quality, and cutting-edge technology, making it appealing to both beginner and professional DJs alike.
Two large effect levers can be used to control up to 57 effects in Serato DJ Pro (including the optional and paid Serato DJ Pro Expansion Packs). The levers are the same size as those on the DJM-S11. To turn the effect on or off, you either hold them down or release them. To keep your hands free to browse or scratch tracks, there is a lock function that locks the lever in place.
The performance pads with their 13 pad modes, including hot cue and sampler, invite creative and experimental performances. Each deck has four performance pads for triggering samples and finding new ways to change tracks
The scratch cutter feature is designed for scratch novices or DJs who want to add spice to their performance with scratch interludes. To do this, select one of the six scratch routines and activate it with the effect lever for the respective deck. By moving a timecode vinyl or a jog wheel via HID, the scratch routine is activated, matching the current speed and without moving the crossfader.
With fast movements of the MAGVEL-Fader Pro crossfader, scratch routines are created without the need for a timecode vinyl or a jog wheel. By moving the crossfader, the played track always jumps to the last set cue point when the effect is active.

The Pioneer DJM-S5 is the first Pioneer DJ mixer that can be powered via a USB-C connection to a computer. The DJM-S5 also functions as a stand-alone mixer with an optional USB power supply, allowing music to be played from classic vinyl or CD players, in addition to the DVS option.
