The Phoenix Audio Ascent One EQ is the fusion of the Phoenix Audio Gyrator 4-band equalizer and an improved version of the same manufacturer's innovative preamp topology. Compared to previous models, Phoenix Audio has especially revised the power supply and equipped it with a toroidal transformer. Following its own design philosophy, Phoenix Audio also combines in this preamplifier the modern demand for highest signal fidelity with the saturation possibilities of classic circuits: The microphone stage is designed servo-balanced (transformerless) and especially high-impedance (10kOhm), an excellent head room and low noise ensure a wide usable dynamic range. This way, the audio signal arrives at the output stage in a particularly authentic and natural way; the frequency response is dead straight, transients are completely preserved, clarity and depth are maintained.
Unlike most other modern designs, the Ascent One EQ also allows harmonic overdriving of the output stage thanks to a downstream output control. The innovative concept of a special balanced output amplifier and a proprietary transformer design allows a smooth, musical crossfade between clean and saturated. This means that even with the preamp in the Ascent One EQ, a wide range of sounds for a variety of genres and sources is covered. This design is typical for Phoenix Audio and is used in all devices of the manufacturer.
