Flexible electric guitar from the PRS Core Model Line-Up
With the PRS 509 Cobalt BluePaul Reed Smith offers probably the most tonally versatile electric guitar of its Core Line-Up. Thanks to five different pickups and the flexible switching options, the PRS 509 offers an enormous variety of sounds from fat humbucker tones to airy, articulate single coil sounds in all positions. In addition, the PRS 509 features an extended scale length of 25.25", giving the innovative model a tight and sustain-rich response with clear Attack and adding additional overtone content to the sound. Otherwise, thanks to the proven "Pattern Regular" neck profile and traditional dimensions classic PRS feeling in all positions, while the solid in-house hardware equipment in the form of a Gen III tremolo system and Phase III tuners with locking function complete the 509 Cobalt Blue coherent.
The PRS 509 Cobalt Blue impresses with a wide range of sound options, harmonious hardware and the tight response of an extended 25.25" scale.
With the usual "Pattern Regular" profile and wide body cuts, you get that proven PRS feel from the first note.
Classic PRS Construction
The basis of the PRS 509 is a mahogany body in Double cut design, which is finished with an arched top made of solid curly maple and, thanks to its wide, bevelled body cuts, has excellent playing characteristics up to the highest positions of the 22-fret fingerboard made of high-quality rosewood. For a classic PRS feel, the proven "Pattern Regular" profile of the mahogany neck provides the right amount of wood for sensitive fingerings and precise layered playing with a thickness of 21.4 mm behind the first fret. Additionally, the PRS 509 electric guitar features a nitro over cellulose (CAB) finish. The blend of cellulose acetate butyrate and acrylic provides a smooth nitro feel with improved heat resistance properties, making the finish less likely to become brittle compared to classic nitro lacquer.
With a total of five coils and additional switching options via coil-split mini-switch, the PRS 509 Cobalt Blue is ready for any fun sonically.
Five pickup for nine different sounds
The 509 Cobalt Blue gets its name from its diverse pickup lineup with tremendous tonal range. Armed with five specially designed and tuned single coils, each forming humbucker pairs in the neck and bridge positions, the 509's sophisticated circuitry with a 5-way blade switch and two mini-switches for individual Coil-Split options for both dual coils results in a total of nine different tonal options, producing every conceivable guitar sound from warm and full humbucker tones to sparkling in-between positions and clear and attack-rich single coil character. Despite its tonal diversity, the circuitry of the 509 from Paul Reed Smith is easily comprehensible and intuitively designed, making the right sound instantly available for any application.
Six PRS Phase III tuners ensure coherent looks and quick string changes thanks to the locking function.
Gen III Tremolo & Phase III tuners
The PRS 509 Cobalt Blue 's in-house hardware setup combines traditional looks and coherent resonance characteristics with extremely practical features for modern guitarists. Accordingly, a reworked PRS Gen III tremolo bridge is used, which thanks to its innovative design creates classic Vintage vibrato effects without tuning problems and ensures resonant transmission into the mahogany body. At the headstock, on the other hand, six PRS Phase III tuners ensure smooth tuning operations, which thanks to their top locking function allow quick string changes and provide reliable tuning stability due to fewer required axle windings.
