Fala Versio stereo formant filter from Noise Engineering
Noise Engineering Fala Versio at a glance
Fala Versio from Noise Engineering belongs to the unique genre of formant filters, also known as vowel filters. A formant filter takes on the frequency ranges and the vowels A, E, I, O & U and imprints this very character on the incoming signal. The result is a very organic and somewhat humanoid sound. Fala Versio takes up the concept and adds a few special features. The signal path starts with a wavefolder, which adds hardness and harmonics to the sound. This is followed by the actual formant filter, which consists of 24 bandpass filters and 3 all-pass filters as well as a complex dynamic control. The filter array is followed by a saturator. It is therefore up to you whether the overall sound moves between mild and soft or hard and gnarly. The resonance control does the rest to intensify the sound character as desired. There is also an LFO that can be synchronized to Clock and can modulate the filters with either a sine or noise wave. Thanks to the seven control voltage inputs and the clock input, each control can be modulated and automated.
Exchangeable firmware
The Noise Engineering homepage gives you access to the "World or Versio" page, where you can find alternative firmwares and write your own firmware for a Versio series module.
