Neumann has returned to the preamplifiers scene with the Neumann V 402 and, as usual, delivers an original, elaborately constructed product in a class of its own. The V 402 combines a stereo microphone preamp with 2 high-quality, exceptionally clean headphone amplifiers at 2 HU in 19" format. It promises a linear, yet full, high-quality amplification of the signal without taking anything away from or adding anything to the sound of the connected microphone. For this purpose, the circuitry of the V 402 works without transformers and has been carefully optimised to meet this requirement. The switchable high-pass filter has also been given special attention in order to avoid any influence on the sound, e.g. through phase shifts. Unbalanced sources can be connected to the two DI inputs and amplified in a clean and unaltered way. Finally, the headphone signal can be mixed separately for each channel without affecting the recording signal.
