The Neumann TLM103 Nickel Stereo Pair is essentially a more modest version of the legendary Neumann U87 microphone, bringing the astounding quality of a Neumann mic into a more affordable price bracket. The U87 is almost unique among microphones in the respect that it is highly regarded at recording virtually all instruments and sources. Acoustic Guitars, Vocals, Amplifiers, Brass and entire Orchestras have all been captured to perfection by the U87 over the years. Such an impressive history has rightfully placed the U87 as a very desirable microphone, but quality of this calibre comes at a price, and that price is usually beyond all but the most well-known and successful studios or producers. Enter the TLM (Transformer-Less Microphone) 103, a large diaphragm, cardioid, condenser microphone with all the build quality of a U87 but at a greatly reduced price. By limiting the polar patterns and other some options found in the U87, Neumann have given the chance of outstanding, world-class recording quality to anyone, with a range to answer all needs.
The Neumann TLM103 Nickel Stereo Pair come with two Shock Mounts in an aluminium case.

The TLM 103 is one of the best sounding vocal microphones i´ve ever worked with, it sounded just like the U87 when it comes to the "Neumann" sound, but with less noise and less smatter and unpleasant mouth sounds. I personally like to have some smatter so the vocals sound human and not "perfect". So i put a TLM 103 and U87 together on a vocal, and it worked perfectly, i did not even use any EQ on the vocals to remove or enhance parts within the voice. I love the U87 and i know that lots of people use it on vocals, but putting the TLM 103 in my vocal recording was the best thing that ever happend to my vocal sound. It also sounds great on strings, but i would have used it on a lot more instruments if it had multiplie directional patterns. If you are after a good sounding vocal mic this one will definitely do it even though it costs under half the price of a U87.
