The Mutable Instruments Ears Contact Microphone features a built-in amplifier with 1m input impedance, a 40dB gain and width of 4HP. Ears is a contact microphone and amplifier that allows you to generate a large variety of sounds by scratching, tapping, and more generally collecting any kind of acoustic waves surrounding your modular case, including speaker feedback.
A built-in amplifier section can provide up to 40dB of gain, with a high impedance input suitable for guitars or other electro-acoustic instruments. It will deliver clean amplification for line level signals or external contact microphones. Ears has been augmented with an envelope follower, and its amplification section has been redesigned from scratch for low noise and low distortion.
The main features of the Mutable Instruments Ears Contact Microphone include:
Built-In Audio Amplifier
1M Input Impedance
Up to 40dB of Gain
Envelope Follower with 3x Preset Attack & Release Times (Adjustable by Jumper)
Gate Detector with 3x Preset Sensitivity Levels (Adjustable by Jumper) & +8V Gate Output
Great little module to give tactile control over other modules or as a pre-amp for external microphones. The inbuilt contact mic can be used to trigger gates. Mutable Instruments have done it again!
I mainly use it for sending and amplifying digital clock signals to analog-modular levels, great companion to resonators and reverbs if you use the mic.
