Compact travel guitar with solid woods and including transport bag
The Martin Backpacker Steel is perfect for use on the road due to its unusual design and solid workmanship. Thanks to its solid tonewoods, the compact backpacker body produces a very powerful sound that unfolds quickly even with light touches. A short 610 mm scale length and a 43 mm wide nut also provide the best conditions for particularly comfortable playability in all 15 frets. A sturdy, matching bag with accessory compartment rounds off the overall package perfectly.
Construction and woods
To create an assertive sound, the manufacturer uses a spruce top on a sapele body. This combination creates very clear mid and treble frequencies, so that the Backpacker Steel comes into its own, especially at Pickings. A flat Select Hardwood neck with a Richlite fingerboard also provides a very accommodating feel.
Design and Hardware
For a precise tuning of the 6 steel strings the manufacturer relies on closed tuners, which give the instrument a high-class touch with their noble chrome hardware. A saddle made of Corian and a compensated saddle made of Graph Tech TUSQ also ensure clean intonation over the entire scale. The MartinBackpacker Steel is completed with a simple matte finish that emphasizes the fine grain of the tonewoods used in a very subtle way.

This is German Professionalism and efficacy! It was a wonderful experience. Thank you so much. Sitting in my tent, or visiting friends who love music, or just by myself....this Backpacker Martin Guitar is my constant companion. It always makes me remember where I bought it. I recommend your shop to all my friends. Thank you again. Hugo
Website ordered 2 guitars and by the time I got through to the helpline was told the order couldn’t be stopped, so I’ve had the inconvenience of returning one of the guitars.
I bought this guitar for when I'm going camping, the size makes it ideal to pack it on the trunk of your car. Concerning the guitar itself, the sound is really "thin" with almost no bass frequencies which is normal for a small bodied guitar. I changed the strings from extra light to silk and silver custom light (the tension is a bit lower, don't go for a higher tension otherwise you'll do irremediable damages to your guitar!) and it really changed the sound to a more "mellow" sound and less "cardboard". The guitar seems very solid and durable. The neck is heavier than the body, so a strap is necessary to play (even when sitting) but it's included in the package so it's not a problem. The action is too high for me (about 4mm at the last fret) so I'm going to change the bridge to lower in down. Overall, this is a really good product, for what you get the price don't seem too high, it's probably going to last ages.
