Overview of Martin 000-28 Brooke Ligertwood
With a modified special model of the classic 000-28, traditional U.S. manufacturer Martin & Co. dedicates a very special instrument to songwriter and Grammy Award winner Brooke Ligertwood (Brooke Fraser). The artist, who hails from New Zealand, landed in 2011 with the song "Something in the water" from her hit album "Flags" in the Top 10 of the German singles charts, even reaching gold status. In addition to a rather narrow neck, the acoustic guitar is equipped with selected tonewoods and filigree inlays. Thus, in addition to a comfortable playability, the signature model convinces with a warm and defined sound and not least with its unique appearance, which makes the hearts of collectors and fans beat faster. In addition to a numbered paper label, a sturdy ply hardshell case is included.
The special model features Brooke Ligertwood's favorite elements from the signature editions of Paul Simon and Eric Clapton
Structure and woods
Since the guitar is made of solid tonewoods, the sound unfolds very clearly and extensively. In addition, the vibration behavior of the Sitka spruce top is significantly favored on the one hand by the flat Scalloped-X bracing and on the other hand by an artificial aging process VTS (Vintage Tone System). This allows the full sound potential to be extracted from the instrument with ease. The body made of East Indian rosewood enriches the sound of the compact 000-14 Fret Western guitar with rich and at the same time warm basses, so that the instrument is excellently suited for vocal accompaniment in the form of pickings, or even strumming. The Select Hardwood neck is equipped with a pleasant Modified-V profile, which is exceptionally flattering to the hand. Thus, the entire ebony fingerboard is easy to use in all positions. The Headplate and bridge are also made of the finest ebony.
Hardware and design
To ensure that the guitar intonates cleanly on the shortened 632 mm scale length, the compensated bridge inlay and the finely notched 43 mm nut are made of bone. The headstock is equipped with nickel-plated open-gear tuners that ensure precise tuning of the 6 steel strings. Under the venerable company logo there is a laurel wreath inlay, which is undoubtedly one of the visual highlights. The fretboard is marked with delicate Diamonds and Squares inlays made of abalone and contains an additional inlay in the shape of the artist's signature on the 20th fret. To clearly separate the individual components of the body, the deck and back are surrounded by a strikingly contrasting maple binding. Matching the multi-layer inlay work on the edge of the top, the multi-stripe soundhole rosette is surrounded by filigree rings, the middle one of which is made of the finest abalone. The appearance is rounded off by a large tortoise pickguard.
