The VOXBOX 2021 PRIDE EDITION is a special edition of the legendary Manley VOXBOX Reference all-tube channel strip with rainbow front panel, honoring the worldwide Gay Pride month 2021. The Pride edition is limited to 100 pieces worldwide.
The Manley VOXBOX is the all-tube channel strip for vocals, but it can also enhance any other sound source. Featuring the same comprehensive mic pre concept as the award-winning Manley mono mic preamp, the VOXBOX offers ample headroom and the typical sound of a Class A tube circuit. furthermore, the well-balanced compressor section features a perfect blend of the popular Manley Variable MU and the electro-optical ELOP. Together with the flexible Pultec-style mid EQ, the De-Esser/Limiter section and the Stereo Link function, these features make the VOXBOX a real workhorse for professional sound processing.
Since the late 1980s, Manley has consistently focused on premium all-tube products. In short, Manley really knows tubes - and it shows in the VOXBOX. This USA-made channel strip scores with its all-tube Class A circuitry as well as Manley's typical, exceptionally high manufacturing quality.
As the name implies, the Manley VOXBOX features a superior mic preamp section. In fact, the preamp circuitry is taken directly from the popular Manley mono mic preamp, providing all the prerequisites for excellent analog sound-whether the signal is fed in via the conventional balanced XLR connector, the balanced line input, or the front-panel instrument input. The adjustable input attenuation, which precedes the first tube stage, allows line-level signals to be optimally levelled at +4 dB or instruments connected via the DI input. The integrated 48 V phantom power can be activated via a switch on the front panel, as can an effective high-pass filter for eliminating impact noise. Finally, the intelligent amplifier circuitry controls the amount of feedback within the tube stage, allowing for a wide variety of tonal characteristics and gain levels. In this way it is possible to quickly and easily switch between different tube sounds from restrained to direct and aggressive. With this great and creative tool allows for every singer and every instrument the "perfect" sound.
The compressor section of the VOXBOX combines functions of the popular Manley Variable MU and the electro-optical ELOP limiter. The signal is compressed before it reaches the tube stage, without any negative effects on distortion or frequency response. This prevents the microphone preamp from being overloaded and eliminates the need for entire circuits that would normally interrupt the flow of the microphone signal. Furthermore, Manley is the first manufacturer to use a sidechain with "parametric compression" here, using up to four different time constants simultaneously, controlled by simple controls for attack, release and threshold. VOXBOX settings are based on the photoresistors of the fast ELOP limiter, the slightly slower LA-2A, and the slower LA-3A, as well as other fine-tuning by Manley. Overall, VOXBOX compressor allows for refreshing new sounds that are perfect for drums, bass, vocals and other sources. The compressor is even recommended for processing an entire mix - the Link function turns two VOXBOX units into one extremely flexible stereo unit.
The VOXBOX's midrange equalizer, which is based on the Pultec units, has been significantly upgraded. It now offers three bands with a total of 33 frequencies, i.e. six new frequencies in the 20 - 150 Hz range and six in the 6.4 - 20 kHz range. With real chokes and Class A circuitry, the VOXBOX's
The de-esser and limiter sections of the VOXBOX offer additional processing options. The peak limiter is based on the limiter circuit of the ELOP, but with an additional passive LC resonant circuit integrated as a de-esser. To suppress problematic frequencies, there are four carefully selected notch frequencies to choose from: 3 kHz, 6 kHz, 9 kHz and 12 kHz. Furthermore, there is a fifth switch position in which, as with an LA-2A limiter, the signal is compressed before EQ and fed to the limiter after EQ.
The Manley VOXBOX is equipped with a large-format, illuminated Sifam VU meter. The corresponding 5-way switch allows to select which level (line input, preamp output or main output) respectively value (compressor level reduction or de-esser/limiter function) is displayed.
Manley has added a few clever "extras" to the VOXBOX that make it equally at home on stage and in the studio. These additional functions include a switch-on delay, particularly comprehensive magnetic shielding, an "intelligent grounding system" and silent switching processes.
