The Lindell 7X-500 is a one channel FET compressor/limiter for the 500 series format.
The 1176 sound has been a much coveted compression staple of the studio, and often emulated by software plugins. The circuit has been brought up to date and offered by Lindell in the popular 500 series format featuring a high pass side chain filter and a mix knob allowing parallel compression making it an ideal and versatile solution for tracking and out of the box signal processing.
The operation of the 7X-500 is based around a fixed threshold input, allowing more compression simply by turning up the input knob. There are controls for attack and release to further craft the compression behaviour which are switched slow, medium and fast attack and release parameters. Any volume lost by high compression settings can be compensated for by the output make up gain control. There is also a switch for ratio settings, with a choice of 100:1 for limiting (simulating the famous ‘all buttons in’ setting) and then 12:1 and 4:1 for a more subtle approach or tracking.
