The Korg minilogue xd module follows the proven, direct operating concept of its predecessors and also offers exciting new features. The clearly arranged four-voice instrument presents itself as a desktop module and can be played directly via the switchable 16 keys. A total of 500 memory locations provide space to store and work out your own sounds. The Polyphon, Unisono, Chord and Arpeggiator modes are available for creative use of the voices.
In addition to the two powerful analog oscillators with variable waveforms, there is now a new type of digital oscillator that accommodates various simplified sound generation modes (a total of 32 variants), including four noise modes. The generated spectrum is supplemented by hard sync, ring modulation and cross modulation. The filter is balanced analog with a slightly biting touch.
The sound is refined with a rich effect palette that literally draws on 35 different modulation effects such as phaser, chorus, flanger etc., 20 different delays and 18 reverb variants.
The Korg minilogue xd module also features a polyphonic step sequencer which, together with the currently active voice assignment, can conjure up different results from the same sequence. Up to four parameters can be recorded and played back in the sequencer, making the patterns come alive and the hands free after input. Before the sound is delivered to the audio outputs, the last instance is a high-resolution OLED display, which displays the waveform of the sound in real time. It shouldn't go unmentioned that the xd module has two assignable CV inputs; modularists should be especially pleased about this feature.
Also new is the Poly-Chain Mode (from OS1.10 on both devices) which allows to connect any two devices of the minilogue xd series and thus double the number of votes from four to eight. In addition to the data connection via MIDI, please note that double the number of audio inputs is required at the DAW or mixing console.
Lots of features and excellent patches. Great value for money and a very nice presentation. My only gripe with mine was that when it arrived, the LCD screen had a scratch on it because one of the pots had come off in shipping and damaged it. If it hadn’t been for Brexit delaying my delivery by 3.5 weeks I would have normally returned for another one but posting back to Germany from UK is almost impossible at present so I will just have to live with the damage. Also disappointed that this shipped with a German power supply. If I had ordered direct from MusicStore I could expect this but not good enough when ordering from DV247, a UK website which does not mention it will not be a UK unit. I would appreciate DV247 sending me a UK power supply as the adapter is not satisfactory.
This is an astounding module for the price. The sound is rich, thick, and most importantly characterful, and it complements my Roland D-05 perfectly. The interface is easy to learn and I've been able to access parameters quickly on stage. The build quality is robust and very solid. The software developer kit allows downloading loads of excellent third-party oscillators and effects. The sound on the reverb stands up next to my Specular Tempus, which is really saying something. A synth for life this one.
The product was delivered to the wrong address, 3 doors away, and left on a doorstep in the rain for 3 days as the residents were away. I got no email or text notification or note through the door to say it had been delivered. I was at home throughout this time 24x7 as I was isolating so there’s no excuse. It could easily have been stolen or damaged. I only found out because we know the neighbours and they kindly delivered it to us. Otherwise i would have had no idea where it was. I notified dv247 customer support about this over 2 weeks ago and so far no response. Good product as long as it arrives.
