With the Kilpatrick Audio CARBON you get pattern sequencer and performance system in one device. Various connection options make the CARBON interesting as a control system for the studio as well as for the performance on stage. For example, it controls synthesizers from DAW to PC and Mac via USB interface, CV/Gate and MIDI. Each of the 6 tracks can contain up to 64 steps - and the workflow is rounded off by a powerful arpeggiator.
The Kilpatrick Audio CARBON was primarily designed as a pattern-based sequencer. As such, it has six tracks, each consisting of 64 steps. Steps can be randomly generated, interactively edited, recorded from a MIDI keyboard step by step, or recorded in real time. Carbon offers polyphony and CC recording, so each step can contain chords or other performance data. Selected regions of a track, for example the first 8 steps, can be repeated over and over again. Meanwhile, you can switch to another track and play a new sequence, even of different lengths, simultaneously - forward, backward, at different speeds, etc.
Carbon shows its true talent in creating variations of sequences. With the help of the pattern control different steps within a sequence can be activated or deactivated. The patterns inspire creative rhythms and motifs that can be created by a simple twist. The concept of scenes allows a quick change between different parts of a song. Scenes contain patterns, increment and some other parameters. The Carbon Sequencer allows recording and editing in real time!
The Kilpatrick Carbon is a complete performance switching system that easily sends signals from the keyboard to MIDI and analog instruments. The two built-in MIDI outputs enable separate routing of clock and channel signals for each track
, and four CV/Gate plus reset and clock outputs for operating analog devices.
Both monophonic and duo/polyphonic outputs are supported.
Even if your favorite controller lacks the keyboard split function, Kilpatrick Carbon allows you to send left and right hand MIDI data to the instruments you choose.
A good arpeggiator is the Holy Grail for electronic sound artists. The internal arpeggiator of the Carbon contains all standard Arp types and many more. When a sequence is running, the Arp automatically synchronizes to the sequencer. Through intelligent reload programming you have enough time to change a chord without losing a step.
Larger compositions can be created with the Kilpatrick Audio CARBON on PC and Mac. When connected to a computer, the device becomes an effective MIDI and CV interface. All instruments connected to the Gates and MIDI ports can be used directly by the DAW software
, but the Carbon is also an excellent USB MIDI host if the controller does not have its own MIDI ports.
With the built-in USB host interface, a MIDI compatible device can take control of the Carbon or send MIDI or CV/Gate signals to other devices.
