The GL-10 E/P is a baby grand piano with a great sound, and Kawai has put the same emphasis on careful craftsmanship and high quality as they do on their larger grand pianos. The result is an instrument that is great to play, has a great grand piano sound, and still fits into almost any room.
The Millennium III mechanics consist of components made from ABS carbon, a composite material created by incorporating carbon fiber into ABS plastic. ABS carbon is incredibly strong and stiff, allowing for the production of lighter mechanics without sacrificing strength. The result is stronger and faster mechanics that offer more power, better control and greater stability than traditional solid wood mechanics.
The soundboard is the heart of a piano. Its goal is to transform the vibrations of the piano's strings into a rich, powerful sound. Kawai uses only straight-grained, quarter-sawn solid spruce for the GL Series soundboards. Each is strategically tapered to provide the right amount of resonant movement in each region. Only soundboards that meet or exceed Kawai's high resonance requirements are selected for use in the GL Series.
The plate is the acoustically neutral iron superstructure of the piano over which the strings are stretched. All GL Series plates are molded using the Vacuum Mold Process (V-Pro) with "Crossbone Design." The result is a plate that is strong, stable and beautiful.
Longer keys make playing easier and provide a more even response from front to back on the playing surface. A taller profile and concert-length keys make them stiffer and provide exceptionally effective energy transfer and optimal performance.
The SOLID design creates an exceptionally rigid foundation to support string tension. First, the pin block is mounted to the plate. Then, the pinblock and overlapping tension bar are combined into a single structure and firmly anchored to the rim. The exceptional thickness of the tension bar reinforces the stability of this sturdy framework, which provides stable tuning and a powerful sound.
