Buy Grand Pianos at MUSIC STORE

The grand piano is one of the most fascinating and versatile musical instruments. Those who begin playing the piano often dream of having their own grand piano. At MUSIC STORE, you will find a wide selection from renowned manufacturers at attractive prices. Grand pianos for beginners as well as professionals.

What makes the grand piano so special?

It's the unique sound that sets a grand piano apart from a classic upright piano.

The soundboard and strings are arranged horizontally, parallel to the floor. In an upright piano, however, they are vertically aligned. The sound from the grand piano's soundboard predominantly radiates upwards and downwards when played. The sound projected downwards is reflected off the floor and distributed throughout the room.

You can directly feel the weight of the hammer. This allows a grand piano to produce a very nuanced sound. The horizontal placement aids the hammers in quickly retracting from the strings due to gravity. Because of this design, the so-called repetition capability — the speed at which the same note can be struck repeatedly — is significantly better than in an upright piano. With a grand piano, the maximum repetition speed is about 14 to 15 strikes per second. In an upright piano, the speed is limited to about 7 strikes per second.

Grand pianos from exclusive brands – Yamaha, Schimmel, and Bösendorfer!

Grand pianos come from various brands. Reputation and prestige often play a significant role in the purchase of a grand piano. We offer grand pianos from exclusive manufacturers and brands like Kawai, Yamaha, Schimmel, and Bösendorfer; often including used instruments from Steinway.

Yamaha

Yamaha is one of the world's largest musical instrument manufacturers. Handmade Yamaha grand pianos are now serious competition for instruments from other manufacturers. Yamaha grand pianos and uprights are well-regarded across all price ranges and are often chosen by music schools for their reliability. Bösendorfer was acquired by Yamaha several years ago.

Schimmel and Bösendorfer

Schimmel, as the largest German manufacturer, is among the oldest and most prestigious in the global market. With Schimmel, you get top quality, made by experienced instrument makers. Every instrument is meticulously crafted using wood seasoned in Europe. Schimmel pianos are also considered a good investment as they retain their value over decades.

Bösendorfer, on the other hand, has been renowned for its grand pianos since 1828. The unique design and use of extra keys allow a deeper bass tone, which sets them apart from other brands. These grand pianos are not only musical instruments but also a work of art.

Construction and function of a grand piano

A grand piano's structure determines its sound. The more massive the construction, the more powerful the sound. The string length and soundboard area also play a decisive role in the instrument's sound quality. The construction and materials used in a grand piano are therefore of utmost importance.

What's the difference between a grand piano and an upright piano?

Grand pianos and upright pianos are different both in terms of construction and sound projection. In a grand piano, the strings and soundboard are arranged horizontally, while in an upright piano, they are vertically aligned. The sound quality, repetition speed, and overall design vary based on these placements.
