With the Moonwind MkII, Jomox presents the second generation of this extraordinary stereo filter with step sequencer after more than 10 years. At its core, this filter box consists of two analog filters in OTA design with selectable lowpass, bandpass, highpass and notch characteristics and separately adjustable cutoff, Q (quality) and resonance parameters for each side. The filters have excellent oscillation behavior over the entire audio range from 10 Hz to 30 kHz. In terms of signal routing, there are further special sound features due to the filter chaining; in addition to Stereo, the parallel, serial and parallel Feedback options are also available. Instead of an input signal, a noise generator including Jomox's special MetalNoize with 1000 variants is implemented. This means that the device can be used as a stand-alone sound supplier without an audio signal being fed in. The digital effects processor provides 15 effects such as eg. Reverb, Delay, Waveguide, Chorus or Flanger and can be positioned at various points in the signal path. The discrete Stereo VCA completes the chain.
Sequencer & modulation sources
The second highlight of the Moonwind MkII is the internal step sequencer, which enables the recording of controller movements for cutoff, Q and resonance separately for the left and right sides over four bars. Instead of the knobs, the touchpad can also be used to intuitively enter parameter progressions. In view of the quality and precision of the filters and chaining options, the Moonwind MkII allows rhythmic, to-the-point sound changes that at best a modular system with matching extensive equipment can achieve. The classic modulation sources are two ADSR envelopes for filter and VCA, two freely addressable LFOs with 64 waveforms each that can be synchronized to MIDI-Clock and a nimble envelope follower. Of course, there are enough memory locations for everything: 32 presets are provided for the patterns (saved control curves), and as many as 256 presets for configurations and sound settings.
Easy to connect
In contrast to the first Moonwind, the MkII is characterized by a number of connections for control voltages. The two CUT L/R CV outputs feed out the sum of all voltages (sequencer line, envelope and LFO) that are applied to the respective cutoff control. Dedicated CV inputs are available for the two cutoff parameters and the VCA. There are also six freely assignable CV inputs, which could be used to modulate Q and resonance from the Eurorack. Stereo Inputs and outputs, a Stereo aux input and the MIDI trio round off the features.
Outro
If you're looking for more than Wob-Wob Lowpass filtering and are prepared to try something new, the Moonwind MkII is a powerful sound processing tool that is unique on the market and sounds incredibly good.
