JOMOX modbase09 MKII - 100 presets
With the ModBase 09 MkIIJomox has successfully transferred his "most powerful Bassdrum in the world" in the second Generation to Eurorack and provided with numerous extras. In addition to popular as well as proven standards from the 808/909 range, the eight basic parameters offer enough setting options that are suitable for at least dub, reggae, techno, house, high-pitched, experimental or even hardcore.
One like none
Among the specialities are the so-called walking basslines: with a lot of Decay the LFO with target Pitch comes into play, and eight different waveforms with BPM reference bring a lot of movement into the sound. In addition, the module is playable via MIDI (on the back) in semitone steps in the range of three octaves and is thus also suitable as a bass synthesizer! The linear FM input directly affects the oscillator, Gate influences the behaviour of pulse and noise. Four freely assignable CV inputs round off this luxurious kick drum. The Jomox ModBase 09 MkII has been slightly revised and now features an improved OS that makes glitches and parameter jumps obsolete. In addition, the accent is now dynamically triggerable.
I picked up the ModBase 09 MkII because I wanted to add serious analog punch to my setup, and I’ve been really impressed with what it can do. Even though I'm not a technical expert, I’ve managed to get some great results after spending some time with it.
Strengths: The sound is definitely the standout feature. This module delivers deep, powerful kicks that cut through a mix. Whether you want short and tight or long and booming, it’s all possible. It can get clean or really gritty depending on how you dial it in.
There are a lot of parameters to shape the sound—things like pitch, decay, noise, EQ, and even some distortion-like effects. It takes some trial and error at first, but once you get the hang of what each thing does, it becomes quite fun to explore.
