Intellijel Multigrain in detail
With Multigrain, Intellijel presents a stereo Morphing granular sampler that offers direct access to up to eight different audio samples (sounds). These sounds are played through a granular engine with morphable scenes and a reverb effect (blur). Granular synthesis generates small audio sections, known as grains, from a larger sample. Multigrain is able to overlay eight of these samples respectively Grains, shape, pitch, filter and play them backwards to create completely new sounds. The eight available sounds use stereo WAV files with a length of up to 32 seconds to create Grains. These are loaded from the microSD card, recorded via the inputs or resampled via the outputs. The granular engine has a whole range of controls for shaping the grains. Two panel settings can be made for each sound (Scene A & B), which can be morphed between manually using the fader and via control voltage.
Modulation is a hot topic in the Multigrain: the module has three assignable CV inputs (X/Y/Z) that can be applied to the parameters of the granular engine. Furthermore, internally generated random modulations (sample & hold) can be applied and the module can be synchronized to the clock. The Next, Gate and Select inputs can be used to sequence, selectively jump to or layer and mix the Grains. The module supports up to 48 projects, each with 48 presets, so that multiple configurations and sample sets can be saved and recalled. This allows you to explore new sound palettes without having to give up your favorite presets. In its capacity as a sampler, you can record new audio material directly in the module and/or resample the processed and manipulated output signal. The included 32GB MicroSD card contains exclusive samples from Richard Devine (Warp/Schematic), Speedy J (Warp/STOOR), Taylor Deupree (12k/Nettwerk) and Jeremy Blake (Red Means Recording) as well as numerous sounds from Intellijel itself to get you started right away.
