It is based on pattern-recognition technology in combination with the plastic ring that allows you to control for example effects of music-apps like the iRing Musik Maker which is included.
The packaging is more interesting than the actual proiduct. Im sure youi could buy this just to do a toingue and cheek unboxing, only to unravel a bit of plastic. Weird
