With the Höfner Shorty Violin Bass, the traditional company from the Bavarian town of Baiersdorf sends a handy short-scale bass into the race, combining the legendary Violin Bass designs and the popular Shorty. Besides original Tea Cup poti caps, indestructible attachments in the form of a 4-saddle bridge and open Vintage-Style tuners complete the Shorty Violin Bass by Höfner.

Comfortably playable shortscale bass
For the construction of the Shorty Violin Bass Höfner relies on a classic wood selection, which in combination with the short 30" scale length (762 mm) promises a sonorous sound character. In addition to the linden body in a typical violin-bass design, the Shortscale four-string features a bolt-on maple neck with a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard offering a full two-octave range. The modernized, flat "Shorty Bass" neck profile together with the shorter scale length also promises buttery smooth playing characteristics in all positions.
A Höfner bass pickup with passive switching promises a sonorous sound character, while Tea Cup pot caps provide the authentic Höfner vintage look.
Sonorous sound
With the Höfner humbucker pickup installed in the neck position, the Shorty Bass delivers a surprisingly sonorous sound with a distinct vintage character that is ideally suited for traditional styles between blues, beat and alternative rock. The sound is controlled in a classic passive way via volume control and a treble slider. Original Höfner Tea Cup pot knobs also provide a dignified vintage look.
Open vintage-style bass machine heads guarantee accurate and stable tuning of the Shorty Violin Bass.
Indestructible hardware equipment
Last but not least, Höfner completes the Shorty Violin Bass with indestructible hardware that promises long-lasting playing pleasure with the handy Shortscale four-stringer. The bridge is a solid 4-saddle hardtail for optimal intonation and string action adjustment. At the headstock in the typical Höfner Stylevintage-style tuners with open gears guarantee an exact tuning with high stability.
Considering it’s price point this little Bass punches well above it’s weight, fit and finish is spot on with really tidy fret work. The roundwound strings fitted again are way better than I expected and makes the Bass very versatile but being a Hofner I fitted some La Bella low tension flats which really makes it sound like you’d expect a Hofner to sound, bouncy and rubbery, it really nails Macca’s Beatle tone. I only marked it down on operation because of the placement of the vol/tone knobs as they get in the way when palm muting using a pick, other than that I’m really pleased with my purchase.
I really didn't know what to expect, I took a chance and it's fab. Super sound, looks good, comfortable to play. We'll pleased, it's my go-to bass now. Shop service good, it came from Germany, but tracked all the way. Excellent condition and service. Very pleased I bought it.
