The Höfner Shorty Bass CT Root Beer is the ideal travel companion for musicians on the go who want a full-sized yet compact instrument. With a 30" scale length (762 mm), the Höfner Shorty Bass is small enough to fit in any luggage compartment, yet offers a grown-up string action for cleanly defined tones with long sustain. In combination with the Höfner Bass humbucker, the compact electric bass delivers a powerful sound with a rich low end. The compact basswood body of the Höfner Shorty Bass CT Root Beer also guarantees a low weight, while the bolt-on maple neck feels comfortable in the hand. Last but not least, standard hardware in the form of a 4-saddle bridge and precise open-geartuners complete the Höfner Shorty Bass CT.
The Höfner Shorty Bass CT is a handy travel bass with shortscale construction and powerful humbucker.
The Höfner Shorty Bass CT Root Beer:
Travel bass from the Höfner Contemporary series
Shortscale construction with 30" scale length (762 mm)
I bought this shorty bass as a practice guitar for playing in bed, on a sofa or in any other comfortable position that a regular bass just wont fit.
Its small size is perfect for carrying around with you, and the bass has a very good sound to it. The action was set a little high when the bass arrived but that was quickly changed.
The case which comes with the guitar is very similar to an air rifle case. In fact, I think it probably is an air rifle case that has Hofner stitched on to the pocket.
The only negative thing I have to say about the Hofner Shorty Bass is its weight distribution. The guitar is very top-heavy. I have attached a small weight to the bottom of the guitar strap to provide more weight to the body of the bass which fixes the problem.
Very good value for money, very impressed by the quality of the guitar. I would recommend the Hofner Shorty Bass to anyone looking for a good practice or starter bass. It would even do well in a live performance.
If you buy one of these guitars, take 5-10 minutes to get used to the weight displacement. Give the fretboard a clean with some lemon oil. Maybe lower the action if you need to.
The tool kit which comes with the bass contains two allen or hex keys for adjusting the bridge.
The bit I like most about the Hofner Shorty is the exceptional build quality for something with such a reasonable price tag.

I have to say I’m so impressed with my new Hofner Shorty ct Bass. I’m used to gigging for years with Monster weighted P basses so the Shorty is such a relief. …. Like Air. Because body is so small it does allow this neck dip everyone cites but with a strap and playing on stage it’s not a problem. The quality and finish is flawless and was Lucy to get a Rosewood neck on mine not one of those horrible Jotoba Cites ones (Though fully understand we have to save planet somehow). The guitar sounds like any Bass circa £300-£500 bass and means you can leave your Musicman and Fenders at home in Studio. Great for touring Bassists who just want easy gigging experience. Well done Hofner!

Good value travel bass that, with a little adjustment is quite playable and sounds OK for basic travel applications. First off - change the strings. The stock strings are really not very good. I changed to D'Addario short scale tape wounds and the bass feels and sounds much better. Also, string height at the nut was too high, but that is easy to reduce: just pop the nut out and sand the bottom of the nut for a few minutes and its fine.
