Carnhill transformers for authentic sound

The Heritage Audio 73JR II is the consistent translation of the classic British preamp design into the 500 rack format. Unlike most other 500 series preamps, the +/-16V supply voltage of the rack mount is stepped up to +/-24V to maintain circuit headroom and to allow the supply of a third amplifier stage, which is crucial for the signal-to-noise ratio of the last 15dB of gain. As with its rack units, Heritage Audio uses input and output transformers from the traditional manufacturer Carnhill for the 73JR II, which today are considered to be decisive for the sound of a good Preamps. This brings the 73JR II closer to the full and rich sound of a classic Preamps than most other 500 adaptations. With the stepped low-pass filter, unnecessary frequencies from 20 to 220Hz can be cut during recording, saving editing work and rounding off the sound of the material with the unique characteristics of this type of filter.

With Preamps such as the Heritage Audio 73JR II, not only can professional-quality recordings with low noise, low distortion and even frequency response be created, but the input signal can also be distorted and enriched with overtones thanks to the large gain reserves, making it sit better at a lower level in the Mix. The 73JR II is also suitable for microphones with a low output level such as the well-known SM7B and RE20 or traditional ribbon microphones with single ribbons. Because the input impedance increases as the set gain value increases, these gain-requiring sound converters are subjected to less load and the treble band, which usually falls off anyway, comes into its own.
