Franz Schubert: At the piano - 12 well-known original pieces
Of the twelve composers in our series "At the Piano", Franz Schubert was certainly least at home on the piano, but what masterpieces did he give us for the instrument! There is hardly a pianist who is not immediately captivated by the cheerful melancholic tone of Schubert's Impromptus and Moments musicaux. Surprising twists give even Schubert's simple pieces a great depth at the beginning of our volume. Even his dances are not just light music: the superficially lovely waltzes and Ländler always have a melancholy tone from which the death premonition of the seriously ill Schubert seems to ring out.
