The Gretsch G9555 New Yorker Archtop Guitar in Semi-Gloss Vintage Sunburst is a grand auditorium-sized archtop guitar from Gretsch’s provocative Roots Collection that addresses the time-honoured 1950’s model, delivering lustrous tone, effortless playability and an authentic look.
The G9555 New Yorker prides itself on simplicity, no hidden tricks, just a master volume and clear sound to allow both casual and pro players to accentuate their playing style with ease through a handsome vessel.
The Gretsch G9555 features a custom wound vintage-style single-coil pickup upon an arched, solid spruce top with oversized Gretsch F-Holes, a rosewood bridge and a single-ply faux tortoiseshell pickguard. The vintage-style ‘V’-shaped mahogany neck profile with a rosewood fingerboard that wields a 25” scale length with 14 frets to the body and 19 frets in total.

Gretsch G9555 New Yorker Prior to buying this Guitar I did a fair amount of research and played a Godin5th Ave and a Peerless. Both nice, but both small, and I would like a bigger nut width as I am a large man. The New Yorker is possibly not the best Jazz guitar in the world, but for a more roots jazz blues sound I'm pretty sure it would be hard to beat. I like it much more than the Godin - which is in itself a great guitar - and it is more useable for my hand size due to the larger nut. I would check you are happy with the string spacing - it is odd moving from my Strats to this, but what a guitar! The d deAmond pickup is the sound you have in your head if you think "Jazz" and "Smokey Nightclub". Not smooth, but a bit rowdy if necessary and always able to turn to Rockabilly. A bargain at the price and probably got me to buy a streamliner for my next guitar.
