The Golden Age Audio R1 Mk2 is a ribbon microphone with a figure-eight polar pattern. This makes it possible to determine exactly from which directions the microphone picks up the sound waves, depending on how it is placed. The figure-of-8 polar pattern picks up sound equally well from the front and the back, but the sound waves coming from the sides do not hit the diaphragm of the R1 Mk2. The internal structure of the microphone also ensures a warm and natural sound withVintage character, which is particularly suitableforvoice and acoustic instrument recordings. The device has a three-pin XLR connector behind the microphone capsule and a 5/8" thread (3/8" adapter included) for mounting on a stand. As the sensitivity of ribbon microphones is generally rather low, it is recommended to use an additional microphone amplifier, such as the PRE-73 Jr Premier from Golden Age Audio.
