Inspired by the unique Tom Petty SJ-200 Wildflower from the 1990s.
With the Gibson Tom Petty SJ-200 Wildflower, the traditional U.S. manufacturer commemorates none other than the songwriter and exceptional guitarist Tom Petty. The name of the instrument is based on the 1994 album "Wildflowers", for the production of which a corresponding SJ-200 model was used. A detailed mother-of-pearl inlay on the headstock and a text excerpt on the back are the highlights of this special edition, which is limited to just 100 pieces worldwide. The acoustic guitar is rounded off with a custom-design pickguard engraved with Tom Petty's autograph. The scope of delivery includes a custom wildflower case and a certificate of authenticity.
"You Belong Among the Wildflowers"
Black Custom Design Pickguard with Signature
A selected top from AAA grade
To be able to produce a clear and defined sound, the manufacturer equips the flat-top Western guitar with a top made of fine-grained Sitka spruce, which produces strongly pronounced midrange and treble frequencies. Thanks to the even grain and the handmade Scalloped-X-bracing, each note unfolds very quickly and sounds long-lasting in the overtones. A 5-ply binding borders the tonewood of the top and creates a smooth transition to the sides. In addition to a multi-striped soundhole rosette, the instrument features a four-bar SJ-200 rosewood mustache bridge and a generous black pickguard that features Tom Petty's signature.
Finest cloud maple from AAA grading
Back and sides made of wölkchen maple
To give the sound a saturated note in the bass frequencies, the back and sides are made of eye-catching curly maple. In combination with the extremely thin nitrocellulose lacquer, the construction guarantees an extremely fast response, so that powerful tones can be elicited from the gigantic Super Jumbo even with light touches. Separated by an elaborate backstripe, the fine grain of the opened back is shown to advantage in a very tasteful way. The sides are separated from the back by a 3-ply binding, which tastefully emphasizes the individual components of the body.
Two-piece curly maple neck with walnut insertion
Perfect playability and high-quality hardware
Equipped with a neck made of flamed maple with walnut insert, the Tom Petty SJ-200 Wildflower is incredibly easy and obliging to pick up in all 20 frets. This is due in no small part to the round profile and rough-grained rosewood fingerboard, which is marked with high-quality graduated crown inlays made of mother-of-pearl. The characteristic headstock is equipped with gold Grover Imperials tuners with a Wildflower inlay in between. A compensated bridge inlay and a 43.8 mm wide bone nut also ensure clean intonation. Equipped with an L.R. Baggs VTC pickup system, the acoustic guitar is versatile and impresses with its authentic sound even when amplified.
