SG guitar in the style of the early sixties for left-handers.
The Gibson SG Standard '61 Lefthand Vintage Cherry picks up the design and feel of the original '61 guitar and proves to be a first-class blues and rock guitar for left-handers. In addition to the mahogany body in the official double-horned contour cut, Gibson relies on a narrow "slim taper" mahogany neck for excellent playing characteristics up to the highest registers. Gibson '60s burstbuckers with hand-wired circuitry evoke the spirit of the fabled PAFs, providing powerful clean and drive tones at the guitar amp. Last but not least, Gibson equips the SG Standard '61 Lefthand Vintage Cherry with the tried and true Hardware in the form of an aluminium stop bar, ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge and VintageDeluxe tuners.
The Gibson SG Standard '61 Lefthand Vintage Cherry comes in authentic Sixties styling and delivers premium blues and rock tones with '60s burstbucker pickups.
The slim "Slim Taper" mahogany neck is glued to the mahogany body of the SG Standard '61 Lefthand.
Full mahogany guitar in set-neck construction
For the construction of the SG Standard '61 for left-handers Gibson naturally falls back on the official set-neck construction with neck and body made of mahogany, which in combination with the thin Nitro-Finish creates the basis for a powerful and sustain-rich sound. While the official double-cut design promises comfortable handling of the guitar both sitting and standing, the slim "Slim Taper" neck profile guarantees agile playing characteristics in all positions of the 22-fret rosewood fingerboard.
Gibson '60s burstbucker pickups and hand-wired circuitry with Orange Drop capacitors deliver authentic vintage tones.
'60s Burstbucker
Two Gibson '60s burstbuckers are responsible for the electrical sound transformation of the SG Standard ' 61 Lefthand Vintage Cherry guitar. Using classic Alnico V magnets and non-waxed, uneven-wound coils, the pickups clearly take their cue from the fabled PAF humbuckers of the golden era, eliciting not only creamy overdrive tones for Blues and rock but also airy cleans for soulful chord and melody playing. A hand-wired circuit with high-quality Orange Drop capacitors and separate volume and tone pots for each pickup also allow precise adjustment of the sound.
Six Gibson Vintage Deluxe Keystone tuners promise high tuning stability.
Tradition-conscious hardware equipment
Of course, Gibson completes the SG Standard '61 Lefthand Vintage Cherry electric guitar with reliable hardware in tradition-conscious vintage style. A stopbar tailpiece made of lightweight aluminium guides the strings over the proven ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge, which was developed by the legendary Gibson president Ted McCarty and provides generous adjustment options for accurate intonation and comfortable string action. On the "Open Book" headstock, Gibson VintageDeluxe tuners also keep the electric guitar securely and stably in the correct tuning.

The guitar is production model, build quality is great, minor issues, nothing that cannot be fixed by a professional setup. Many blame this vibrola system for tuning instability, I didn’t experience anything annoying or different than with other tremolos systems. Decent clean tones but the crunch sound of this guitar is to die for!

Extremely pleased with this instrument. I have owned a les Paul an es 335 but never really got on with either. The SG is beautiful, nicely balanced, good range of tones an an excellent neck profile. This is definitely a keeper. Delivery time was a little bit longer than if it was shipped in the UK but the price It was retailed at was an absolute bargain.
