With the Gibson 1959 ES-355 Ebony Ultra Light Aged, the Gibson Custom Shop reissues the stylish premium version of the famous 1959 ES-335. Featuring top-of-the-line wood selection, historically accurate hardware appointments, and hand-wired electronics, this top-of-the-line Semihollow model also features classic visual appointments of the prototype and expertly showcases the coveted Semihollow platform with the Murphy Lab's authentic aging process.

Maple and poplar body with center block.

With its 3-ply maple and poplar body, the hollow-body follows the laminate construction common since 1948 at Gibson and made famous by the ES-175. Finished with a multi-ply binding, the semi-hollow body features an additional center block made of solid maple, which allows the model to play at higher gain settings without unwanted Feedback. Other premium features of the ES-355 include a solid ebony fingerboard with 22 frets in the historically correct medium Jumbo format that evokes the classic's renowned playability.

Hand-wired electronics with paper-in-oil caps.

The wiring of the Gibson 1959 ES-355 Ebony Ultra Light Aged also remains true to the original of the late fifties and relies on real paper-in-oil capacitors as well as potentiometers from the component manufacturer CTS. On the other hand, the combination of two Gibson Custom Bucker humbuckers ensures appropriate sounds at the amplifier. The hand-wound dual coils come from the Gibson Custom store and are based on many years of analysis of original PAF humbuckers of the era, and the coveted sound of these iconic pickups as close as ever.
