Gibson Explorer at a glance
The Gibson ExplorerCustom Ebony represents Gibson's legendary offset classic as part of the Custom Shop Modern Collection. Originally created in 1958 by Ted McCarty as a modernized design for jazz musicians, the iconic Explorer found its most loyal following among fans of hard rock and metal. However, blues legends such as Eric Clapton and Joe Bonamassa also frequently pick up the Explorer and appreciate it for its expressive tone. In the custom version, the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville, Tennessee provides particularly elegant appointments in the form of golden hardware parts and optical appointments in the form of multiple Bindings and a timeless Ebony finish. naturally, the GibsonExplorerCustomEbony electric guitar comes with a hardshell Case and certificate of authenticity!
Offset mahogany body
With its authentic shaping, the ExplorerCustomEbony remains true to the traditional lines of the classic and has a body made from solid mahogany. The neck is also made of mahogany in a balanced medium C profile, which is designed with a long neck heel (long neck tenon) and glued to the body. This not only provides additional stability but also proves to be a particularly resonant connection between the two core elements of the instrument. The neck is finished off with a 22-fret ebony fingerboard.
Gibson 490R & 498T Humbucker
It goes without saying that a good Explorer relies on two official humbuckers that know how to capture the typical sounds of the model. For this, the Gibson Custom Shop relies on the tried-and-tested combination of a Gibson 490R Rhythm humbucker in the neck position and a Gibson 498T Treble humbucker on the bridge. Both pickups are wired together via a handmade wiring, which provides two separate volume controls for individual control of both pickups and an additional tone control for treble attenuation.
Noble custom appointments
The GibsonExplorerCustom offers some additional details that are traditionally reserved for the custom versions. For example, the instrument has a deep black Ebony nitrocellulose finish, which, in combination with multiple bindings, mother-of-pearl block fingerboard inlays and its hardware in a uniform gold look, creates a harmonious overall picture. The selection of add-on parts consists of a Gibson ABR-1 Tune-o-Matic with matching stopbar and six Grover Rotomatic tuners with classic kidney wings.
